The Toronto Catholic District College Board (TCDSB) trustees have voted towards permitting polling stations in faculties for the Canadian federal election.
A TCDSB spokesman stated the board of trustees voted 6-5 to not enable polling stations within the board’s faculties “to eradicate any further threat of COVID-19.”
The decision states that the director of the TCDSB will now write a letter to Elections Canada to tell the company of the vote.
The decision means that business buildings, arenas and public municipal buildings can be utilized as polling stations as a substitute.
“If this board now permits unidentified folks to make use of our indoor college services, our system would pose the next threat, particularly with the incidence and unfold of lethal variants,” the decision stated partly.
Though faculties have historically been used as polling stations previously, given the continued pandemic and the measures which were taken to maintain the services open, this isn’t an everyday college 12 months, the decision stated.
